The pay of the Police is as follows:-

and they have the privilege of remitting half their pay to

India at the rate of 44 cents to the rupee.

This means an addition of about 25 per cent

to the pay and places the Constable of the first class in a

better position than the Asst. Warders of the 2nd, class, and

an Acting Sergeant of the 1st.class in as good a position as

Assistant Warder of the 1st. class.

The result is that men are not attracted to

the gaol staff from the Police as was the case before the

Police received exchange compensation.

And the effect on the Gaol staff is that

English speaking candidates are not procurable for the posts

of Assistant Warders.
